January 24 – March 22, 2020
In the year of the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Karelia, the regional department of the All-Russian public organization “Union of Russian Designers” and the Art Museum of Republic of Karelia are announcing the start of the festival “Petrozavodsk – capital of Russian design 2020” and running the exhibition VICTORIA DESIGN AWARDS: RUSSIAN DESIGN 2020.
Design is a word, which means not only creativity and artistic construction, but is in itself a form of thought – the invention of any object, the creation and projection of any subject and expanse. “In the beginning was the Word”, means, a thought. This is the same in the realm of someone’s everyday life: in order to create something, something must be thought. The result must be as comfortable and durable as possible – both beautiful and attractive. This is the essence of modern design.
Design is an engine for the development of all spheres of life in today’s world. Tens of thousands of specialists work in Russia – this promotes a lot of goods and services, creative initiatives, innovative ideas, projects of young designers on the national and international markets alike. Education in this field of creative activity is very popular among young people, including in Karelia – since 2017, Petrozavodsk State University has been teaching bachelors in the specialty “Design”. Russian specialists in design are in high demand across the world.
At the exhibition, work from leading Russian designers of an international level in the realm of graphic design (firm style and branding), industrial design (design of production articles), environmental design (interior, exterior, environmental), fashion design (clothes and suits), and item design (examples of furniture, household appliances, decoration) will be presented.
In 2018, in the framework of the new project of the All-Russian Museum of Decorative Arts “Invented and Made in Russia”, a contest of actual Russian subject design was held, which brought together designers and artists from more than 30 cities of Russia. The competition was held in three categories: “Design Product”, “Design Prototype” and “New Craft”. The best works in seven categories: furniture, home decoration, lighting, dishes, home textiles, jewelry, accessories, selected by experts are represented on the exhibition.
The exhibition is supported by the Administration of the Head of the Republic of Karelia, the Administration of the Petrozavodsk City District, the All-Russian Public Organization “Union of Russian Designers”, the Centre for Fashion and Design of the All-Russian Museum of Decorative Arts.
