Steppe Story

Dates of the exhibition: September 20-December 1, 2019

The unique exhibition project “Steppe Story” of the famous Buryat artist will take place this fall in the halls of the Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Karelia. This young artist, Zorikto Dorzhiev, who turned a little over forty years old, is no exaggeration to know the whole world. Numerous displays of his works at the international biennale, art fairs, at the leading museum venues in Russia and the world attract more and more new fans of his talent. And now the 58th Biennale is being held in Venice – one of the most status exhibitions of contemporary art, where Zorikto Dorzhiev’s works are presented with a personal exposition “New Steppe”, which will undoubtedly expand the audience of the master.

The Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Karelia, in collaboration with the Khanhalaev Gallery (Moscow), presents the work of Zorikto Dorzhiev in Petrozavodsk. The exhibition will show more than 40 paintings from different years by the artist. Some completely new canvases include: “#reloadingdreams”, “Labyrinth” are works that became the brand, also “Mona Lisa-Khatun” that uses traditional Buryat motifs and myths seen through the eyes of a modern man of the 21st century. Nomads of the Great Steppe, warriors, heroes, oriental women are Dorzhiev’s favorite subjects. The artist’s works are very interesting in the pictorial plan: he mostly paints in oils, but also often uses mixed media, adding gold foil and acrylic paints.

The artist’s graphic sheets are executed with virtuosic skill, the silhouettes of the female heroes of Dorzhiev are exquisitely stretched, and the realities of clothes, weapons, jewelry are sculptured. Sculptures of the artist “Madame”, “Sunday” and others will certainly make a great impression on visitors, allowing to talk about his extraordinary versatility. Zorikto Dorzhiev has already achieved a lot and continues to create brightly and artistically. We are waiting for you at the exhibition in the Museum of Fine Arts!
