The Republic of Karelia’s 100th anniversary is the reason to take a look into the history and recall key events in the history of the region. An exhibition “Karelia. 100th anniversary” includes the works of fine arts which reflect the main stages of formation and development of the region. The exhibition demonstrates items from the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Karelia. The central idea of the exhibition is built around the main metaphors which were used by artists, poets, and cultural figures to portray the space of the region throughout the history.
Addressing a wide range of topics from the natural uniqueness of Karelia to major construction projects of the 20th century, from major events to microhistory, is not only a way to preserve and transmit memory, but also a reflection on the identity of the region’s space and society.
This exhibition is a space for meeting with the history and glory of the region, its heroic and lyrical characters, as well as a variety of author’s artistic approaches to understanding the geographic, temporal and cultural space of the Karelia region.
