JOURNEY TO RUSSIA
Historical exhibition “Journey to Russia” was opened in the Museum of Fine Arts of Karelian Republic on the October 19. It is devoted to the history of the Russian statehood and consists of different works of art, including icons, graphics, paintings and sculptures from the museum’s funds.
The main idea of the exhibition – journey to Russia was taken from the Avgust Mayerberg’s trip diary, which he was writing while travelling across Russia in 1661-1662. He was an ambassador of the Rome Empire and visited many cities of Russia at that time. In 1827 illustrated album from his trip notes and drawings was published. More than 20 pages of this unique book are shown on the exhibition.
Portraits of the members of the Russian royal family are of great interest. You can enjoy images of Peter I, Ekaterina II, Nikolay I and others.
Some works of art are shown for the first time.
