The project “Reflection of Eternity’ is the winner of the second open contest of projects “Museums of the Russian North” held under the initiative and with financial support of OAO “Severstal’”. The organization partner is the “Charities Aid Foundation” (CAF Russia).
In total, 22 applications were submitted from 21 cities of the Russian North West. The jury selected 5 innovative and socially significant museum projects that received financial and expert support. The Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Karelia won in the category “information technology in the museum” with the project “Reflection of Eternity”.
The project implementation period: September, 2011 to February, 2012.
The goal of the project: creating conditions for social and environmental adaptation of people with disabilities and expanding access of people to cultural values preserved in the museum.
Within the framework of the project there was a multimedia program – tour of the museum’s permanent exhibition. For the first time in the Republic of Karelia, the technology of spherical panoramas was used for the creation of the video sequence; a demo version of panoramas of several halls is available. The project provides a unique opportunity for people with disabilities to see the masterpieces of fine art with their own eyes and even “walk” through the halls of the second floor of the museum with the use of the virtual tour using 3D panoramas (such technology will be used for the first time in cultural organizations of the Republic of Karelia), which will create the effect of real presence for the visitors.
Besides, this project will be interesting not only for people with disabilities but a wide number of visitors, adults, students, and schoolchildren, since the virtual tour is filled with different interactive aspects, information blocks and logical games.
