On the first floor of our museum a unique and unusual exhibition “Empress Maria Fedorovna – an artist and collector” is opened.
It is dedicated to the Russian Empress, the wife of Alexander III, Maria Fedorovna (Dagmar of Denmark). The exhibition includes three of her works from the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Karelia: two still-lifes executed in the style of «small Dutch masters», and the watercolor painting «Miser».
Maria Feodorovna and her spouse Emperor Alexandеr III collected paintings of famous Russian artists for exapmle A. Meshchersky, A. Bogolyubov, M. Botkin, A. Pisemskiy and others in the personal residence of spouses – the Anichkov Palace. Today some of these works belong to the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Karelia, and are a worthy addition to the works of the Empress herself.
