On the 6th of June there was the opening day of the exhibition “The pearl of Zaonezhye”.
From the 6th of June 2014 the exhibition “The pearl of Zaonezhye” in the Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Karelia has started its` work. That event was devoted to the tercentenary of the Preobrazhenskyi Cathedral on the Kizhi island.
The Church Of The Transfiguration (1714) is the most famous and striking construction of the ensemble of Kizhi Pogost, which has been included into The list of UNESCO world heritage and also into the State code of especially valuable objects of cultural heritage of the peoples of Russia.
The Kizhi ensemble is a a masterpiece of the ancient architecture. It has been inspiring a lot of artists, poets and prose writers in different years. Many famous Russian artists visited the Kizhi island , including Ivan Bibilin, who wrote: “…anywhere I've never seen such large-scale construction of fantasy as in Kizhi… What the architect was that built the churches!”.
The exhibition has the works of such outstanding masters of painting and graphics as Boris Pomortsev, Aleksey Avdyshev, Myud Mechev and others from the Museum`s of Fine Arts of the Republic of Karelia, state historical-architectural and ethnographic Museum-reserve`s “Kizhi” collection. Also the exposition is supplemented with the works from the artists` workshops, photos and art objects.
The exhibition is open till 1st of September.
